Solar security trailer: what it solves, and the lighter way to cover a site

A towable solar trailer puts one elevated camera view in one place — and brings a truck, a parking spot and a rental term with it. HoundLight does the job most job sites actually need from a pole or fence line: one person, about an hour, no tow.

  • Solar and 4G built in — no mains power, no site Wi-Fi
  • AI runs on the unit: person detection, siren, strobe and voice warning
  • Unbolt it and carry it to the next gate when the site moves
  • Optional human-verified monitoring, so a trained operator checks every alert

Not rated for classified hazardous locations. Mounted outside classified areas — gates, fence lines, yards and lease roads.

The real cost

What a solar security trailer actually asks of you

The trailer itself is not the expensive part. It is everything around it: getting it delivered, finding a spot it can sit for months, keeping its panel clean and its battery warm, and paying for the months it covers nothing but weeds.

And because it covers one fixed view, a second gate or a second phase of the build usually means a second trailer and a second monthly rate.

  • Delivery, pickup and repositioning are usually billed separately from the monthly rate
  • It needs a hard, level spot — and the spot occupies yard space you may need for materials
  • A trailer is a visible, high-value object on a dark site, and is itself a target
  • One mast view leaves gates, laydown yards and the back fence unseen

The alternative

HoundLight: solar 4G security without the tow

HoundLight is an all-in-one unit — solar panel, battery, cellular radio, camera, lights, siren and AI processing in one housing. It mounts to a pole, a fence post or the side of a site trailer, and it starts working the same day.

It detects a person, warns them off with a voice message and flashing lights, and sends you the clip. If you want a person watching, our human-verified monitoring puts a trained operator on every alert before it reaches your phone.

  • Installed by one person in about an hour — no trailer, no generator, no fuel
  • Runs on its own panel and battery, over the cellular network
  • Add a unit per gate or yard instead of adding a whole trailer
  • Units pack densely for shipping, so a multi-site rollout arrives in one shipment
  • Buy them, rent them, or start with a fixed-price 30-day pilot on a live site

Solar security trailer vs HoundLight

Both run on solar and both send alerts. The difference is how much site logistics you take on to get one camera view.

If you need height

Sometimes a mast is the right answer

On a very large perimeter, a single elevated mast genuinely does see further than a fence-mounted unit. If that is your site, we supply SentryPal Pro — a mobile surveillance unit with a telescoping mast, solar power, 4G or Starlink backhaul and a four-camera AI array.

For most construction sites, yards and lease roads, the cheaper answer is several HoundLight units at the actual entry points rather than one tall view of everything — including the parts nobody walks past.

Common questions

Do I need power or internet on site?+

No. HoundLight runs from its own solar panel and battery and connects over 4G cellular, so a site with no mains and no Wi-Fi is the normal case, not the exception.

How is this different from renting a solar trailer?+

You are not paying for a trailer to sit on site. The units mount on what is already there — a fence post, a pole, a site office wall — and move with the crew as the job progresses. You can buy them, rent them, or pilot them for 30 days first.

What happens when someone walks on site at night?+

The unit detects the person on the device, switches on its lights, plays a voice warning and sends the clip to your phone. Several people can receive the same alert, and anyone can cancel or escalate it in the app.

Can it read license plates at the gate?+

Yes, with SmartReg license plate recognition. Every plate is logged with a photo and a timestamp, and vehicles that are not on your approved list are flagged.

Can I get monitoring with it?+

Yes. Human-verified monitoring is optional: a trained operator checks each alert before it comes to you. In the US we deliver monitoring through a licensed monitoring partner in Texas, and in other states on request.

Can it be mounted on a trailer I already own?+

Yes — the unit mounts to poles, posts, fences and flat surfaces including the side or mast of an existing trailer, which is a common way to get a taller view without buying a new one.
