Renting a surveillance trailer gets a mast on site without capital, and it is the right answer for some jobs. But the monthly rate is rarely the whole invoice, and it is worth knowing what sits outside it before you sign a term.
We do not quote trailer rental rates — they vary by city, mast height and term. We will price your sites honestly and let you compare.
Read the schedule
A typical mobile surveillance trailer rental includes the trailer itself, a mast, a solar panel and battery bank, a camera or small camera array, and a cellular router. Some suppliers include a monitoring service; many do not.
That is a lot of capability in one object, which is exactly why rental works for a short, single-location job — a demolition window, a shutdown, or a gap between contracts.
Outside the rate
The line items that catch people out are the ones that scale with how much the site moves. A trailer that has to be repositioned three times during a build is three additional logistics events.
The alternative
HoundLight is a solar 4G security unit that mounts on a pole, fence post or site trailer. You can rent the units or buy them outright, and you only add one where there is actually something to watch — a gate, a laydown yard, a fuel tank, a lease road.
When the site closes, the units come down in minutes and go to the next job. Nothing sits in a yard between contracts, and nothing needs a truck to move.
The honest version: rental wins on up-front cash and loses on flexibility. Owning wins on long projects. Units win when the site moves and there is more than one place worth watching.
| Rent a trailer | Buy a trailer | HoundLight units | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up-front cost | Low — first and last month | Highest — trailer, mast, cameras | A per-unit price, or rent the units |
| Ongoing cost | Monthly rate for as long as you need it | Insurance, maintenance, storage when idle | Unit price plus optional monitoring |
| Idle months | You keep paying, or you return it and re-order later | It sits in the yard costing storage and insurance | Units redeploy to the next site in the same afternoon |
| Coverage | One mast view per trailer | One mast view per trailer | One unit per gate, lane or yard — scale by unit, not by trailer |
| Logistics | Delivery, pickup and repositioning each time | Towing, parking, storage | Carried by hand and mounted in about an hour |
| If you stop | Coverage stops the day the trailer leaves | You still own the asset | Units keep working, or move to another site |
It depends on your city, the mast height, the camera count and the term, so we do not publish a rate for a market we are not in. What we will do is price your sites by unit and put it next to the rental quote you already have.
Yes. There is a rental option alongside buying, plus a fixed-price 30-day pilot if you want to see the detection working on your own site first.
A trailer needs somewhere legal to sit, and local rules vary by city and site. A mounted unit avoids the parking question entirely, but you should always check signage, notice and local requirements for cameras on your site with your AHJ.
Monitoring is an optional upgrade, not bundled into a unit price. If you want an operator checking every alert before it reaches your phone, that is added and priced by site.
Units come off the pole in minutes and go to the next site or back into storage. There is nothing to tow, no pickup charge and no return delivery to schedule.
Send the gates, the yard and the term you are being quoted for. We will come back with a unit-by-unit alternative you can compare line by line.
