The Challenge
The utility's reservoirs and intake towers sit in remote, unmanned locations — many with no mains power, no fixed network, and no lighting. Trespass, vandalism and the threat of deliberate contamination of the drinking water supply were the primary risks. Existing passive CCTV was only reviewed after an incident, and roaming guard patrols were costly, slow to respond, and left most hours unmonitored. Water quality regulations demanded a documented, auditable incident-response trail, while maintenance crews working alone at remote sites had no lone-worker safety cover.
The Solution
ImageDeep deployed self-contained, solar-powered camera masts across all eight sites — each carrying bullet cameras, a communications antenna and an edge AI box. Detection runs on the edge, so sites stay protected even when connectivity drops, with footage and verified events syncing back over 4G/Starlink when the link returns. Every alert is human-verified in under 5 seconds before it reaches the utility. Custom workflows were built for the water sector: perimeter intrusion and tamper detection at fences and gates, loitering alerts at intake towers, SmartReg LPR logging every vehicle at site gates, and automated lone-worker check-in for maintenance crews. Compliance and incident logs are generated in real time, removing manual reporting.

Temporary masts are stood up at the dam and intake tower within hours — no civil works, no rip-and-replace of existing infrastructure. Bullet cameras cover the walkway, spillway and waterline; the edge box runs AI analytics on-site, and trained operators verify every detection before the utility is notified. Footage is processed locally and synced when connectivity returns, so protection never drops even on a remote, off-grid site.
