The Trust faced growing pressure to address security in high-risk areas: A&E waiting rooms, psychiatric assessment units, and hospital car parks. Existing passive CCTV covered the areas but provided no real-time detection capability — incidents were reviewed after the fact, with no mechanism for early intervention. Staff safety incidents, particularly in A&E, were increasing year-on-year. The Trust's Information Governance team required any new surveillance system to satisfy the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, with GDPR Article 9 compliance for special category data (footage capturing health-related information). Any solution also needed to pass a Data Protection Impact Assessment and CQC inspection requirements for restricted clinical area security.
ImageDeep was deployed across 72 cameras at all three sites, with AI models trained specifically on healthcare environment behaviour patterns: loitering in restricted areas, aggressive posture detection in waiting rooms, and after-hours vehicle activity in car parks. The platform's GDPR-compliant architecture — with defined retention policies, zone-based privacy masking, and data processing agreements — satisfied the Trust's Information Governance requirements and passed an NHS Digital Data Security and Protection Toolkit review. A DPIA was completed using ImageDeep's template documentation. All footage is processed as special category data with appropriate safeguards. Verified alerts reach security staff in under 5 seconds, with no raw footage leaving the premises without incident confirmation.
